SHARON WILKINSON

Sharon as Head of the Family Department with over 30 years post qualification experience is a well known and highly respected and experienced Solicitor advising on all aspects of law relating to divorce, children and financial issues surrounding relationship breakdown.

Sharon is entirely committed to securing the very best possible outcome for her client whether by way of negotiation or through the Court process. Sharon ensures that her approach is tailored to her client’s individual needs, she has a robust yet sensible, practical and compassionate approach during what is often a stressful and emotional time.
In children matters Sharon is often involved in cases with a high degree of complexity. She represents parents and grandparents and frequently acts for children who are involved in Court proceedings involving social services.

With a keen eye for detail Sharon has acted in a wide range of financial cases, those where there are significant assets including businesses, significant pensions and inherited property to small cases involving restricted issues. This has given her a wealth of experience in dealing with cases in a constructive and cost effective manner.
Sharon has a particular interest in farming cases and understands the particular challenges faced when a marriage or relationship breaks down.

Sharon is a member of Resolution and whilst she is noted for her ability to negotiate effectively and resolve the most contentious of disputes she also has considerable experience litigating within the family Court system and recognises some cases require Court intervention and regularly undertakes her own advocacy in both children and financial cases.

Sharon has acted for a wide range of clients and is regularly instructed by clients who have been referred to her by professional contacts she has in the local area and most particularly referrals from former clients.

BIOGRAPHY

Sharon joined Cocks Lloyd in 1987 upon completing her Law Society Finals at The College of Law in Chester. She completed her training before qualifying as a Solicitor in 1989. Sharon has specialised exclusively in family law throughout her career and became a Partner at Cocks Lloyd in 1992 and Head of Department upon the retirement of the firm’s senior partner in 1996. Sharon has ensured that the department has an enviable reputation for providing a first class service in all areas of family law.
When not at work Sharon enjoys spending time with her family and particularly enjoys a long walk with her labrador dog.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

Sharon is a member of the Law Society Family Law Advanced Accreditation Scheme. Members have to demonstrate to the Law Society that they have and will maintain a high level of knowledge and experience in their practice area. Sharon demonstrated those skills in advice and conduct of financial cases and children law.

Sharon is also a Member of The Law Society Children Law Accreditation Scheme. Members have to show to the satisfaction of The Law Society that they have and will maintain a high level of knowledge, experience and awareness in Children Law and the representation of children.

Sharon is a member of Resolution, who are a group of family lawyers committed to the constructive resolution of Family disputes.

ANDREW MATHIE

PARTNER
SPECIALISM AND EXPERIENCE

Andrew specialises in the court-based representation of children and adults.

Andrew has a particular speciality in representing children in care proceedings brought by local authorities.

Many of the cases Andrew deals with are highly complex, involving significant factual and technical issues, including detailed examination of medical matters in terms of non-accidental injuries, deep-seated psychological problems, multiple factual allegations of physical and sexual abuse, significant and chronic neglect, drug and alcohol problems and dealing with individuals who struggle to participate within the court process.

Andrew prides himself upon a thorough, organised and systematic approach to these cases and an ability to relate to and empathise with the clients he represents.

Andrews ability to deal with complex multi party cases involving significant documentation is assisted by an experienced and committed team Working with him.

PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY

Andrew attended Warwick school before graduating from Newcastle University with an honours degree in law.

He completed his law society final exams at the college of law in Chester, before taking up a training contract with Cocks Lloyd in September 1980.

Andrew was admitted as a solicitor on the 1st of October 1982 and became a partner in Cocks Lloyd 1986.

Andrew is a member of the Law Society children’s panel and has been for many years.

ELIZABETH DAVIES

PARTNER
SPECIALISM AND EXPERIENCE

Elizabeth is a Solicitor within the Family Department at Cocks Lloyd, and Head of our Care Team. She deals with all areas of family law and has a particular interest in cases concerning children. Elizabeth also advises clients on divorce, finances and matters involving domestic abuse.

Elizabeth represents parents and children in cases where Children’s Services have become involved with a family and she also has experience working on complex children cases which involve making arrangements for children when parents have been unable to come to an agreement outside the Courtroom. Her focus is on negotiating a client focused, amicable, settlement wherever possible, whilst having a reputation for a strong and robust approach when required.

BIOGRAPHY

Elizabeth studied at Nottingham Trent University obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology before completing her legal studies and obtaining a law degree at the College of Law in Birmingham.

Elizabeth qualified as a Solicitor with Cocks Lloyd and has thereafter remained within the Family Department.

Outside of the office Elizabeth enjoys going to the gym and walking her dog.

EMMA RYMELL

SOLICITOR
SPECIALISM AND EXPERIENCE

Having gained a wealth of experience working solely in Family Law for over 20 years at a firm where she was a Director and Head of Department acting for clients both in the local area and the wider Midlands region, we were delighted that Emma chose to join the Family department at Cocks Lloyd at the start of January 2020.

As an accredited member of the Law Society’s Family Law Panel and a member of Resolution (previously the Family Law Association) Emma is committed to dealing with Family Law matters in a non – confrontational manner and she strives to achieve the best possible outcome for her clients. Emma prides herself on achieving a high level of client satisfaction and has built a reputation for being extremely approachable, honest and a fair, yet firm and determined negotiator.

Emma specialises in advising clients in relation to any financial issues associated with a relationship breakdown, including the division of property, savings and pensions, Emma also has experience advising in more complex cases involving businesses or high value assets.  For those client’s that are entering into or in the early stages of a relationship, Emma can advise on the merits of entering into a Cohabitation or Pre-Nuptial Agreement.

BIOGRAPHY

Emma studied at the University of Hull and the College of Law, Chester, before moving to the Nuneaton area where she qualified locally as a Solicitor in 1998.

As a mother of two children, Emma knows the importance of putting the children’s needs and interests first and she has years of experience advising mothers, fathers and grandparents on Children matters arising from family separation, in particular issues surrounding where a child will live and the time they should spend with the other parent or grandparent, where appropriate.

In her spare time, Emma is busy, like many parents, as a taxi for the children with their daily extra – curricular activities and with one child swimming competitively Emma has qualified to officiate at competitions. Emma enjoys country walks with the family dog and keeps fit by running, having entered her first 10K run last year.
