Matthew Blood
Matthew is ranked locally and regionally as an impressive and experienced real estate, commercial and general litigator. He is Head of Litigation and Head of Property at our firm along with Data Protection Officer and Senior Responsible Officer for CQS.
Matthew is sought after for instructions given his ability to make the complex understandable for clients and his tenacious ability to obtain the objective sought by his client. He is pragmatic and drawing on his decades of experience and can advise clients on the quickest and most cost-effective route for achieving their required outcome.
Clients instruct a solicitor at times of stress and worry in their life. Expect Matthew to understand and empathise whilst providing clear advice on the realistic expectations of his client and if the outcome they seek can or is likely to be achieved.
The majority of Matthew’s case load arises from repeat instructions or recommendations from others.
Matthew’s practice in property includes:
- Property disputes involving adverse possession, boundary disputes, easements, Party Wall Act, restrictive covenants, nuisance claims, proprietary estoppel, constructive trusts and injunctions.
- Disrepair and dilapidations, forfeiture and possession, terminations and renewal of business tenancies / Landlord and Tenant 1954 disputes.
- Residential landlord tenant possession, disrepair.
Matthew has a thriving practice with contentious probate and advises upon:
- Contesting a Will / assessing the validity of a Will.
- Claims pursuant to the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975.
- Estate administration disputes including disagreements among beneficiaries, disputes with executors or administrators, issues with the handling
Matthew has a general practice which includes a staple of debt recovery, contract and tort disputes as well as insolvency work.
Reported cases in the press and law reports include the beneficial ownership of a joint bank account and an Inheritance Act claim involving a secret partner of the deceased. He has spoken at seminars and conferences.
Matthew is a school governor and chairman of a charity. In his spare time, he enjoys time with his family, running and attending real ale beer festivals.
