Kia Garfield

Kia Garfield is a Solicitor in the Family Department at Cocks Lloyd. Having joined the firm in 2021, Kia has developed a strong and diverse legal background, enabling her to provide practical, compassionate, and client-focused advice.

Kia graduated from Coventry University with a Law degree before completing the Legal Practice Course and a Master’s degree at the University of Law, Birmingham. Prior to the commencing of her training contract in 2024, she gained valuable experience working within the Family Department, giving her extensive exposure to a wide range of family law matters from the outset of her legal career.

When undertaking her training contract at Cocks Lloyd, Kia chose a broad range of seats because she recognised the value of gaining experience across different areas of law. This allowed her to develop knowledge in conveyancing, wills and probate, before returning to the Family Department in October 2025. During this time, she worked closely with the Head of the Family Department, assisting in all aspects of private family law matters. She also gained valuable advocacy experience by shadowing a number of Solicitors and Barristers throughout her training, attending court hearings and observing proceedings across a wide range of family law cases.

Now qualified as a Solicitor, Kia predominantly specialises in private children matters and cohabitation disputes. She is passionate about helping clients navigate what are often some of the most difficult and emotional periods of their lives, providing advice and practical solutions tailored to their individual circumstances.

What Kia enjoys most about her role is the variety and challenge that each day brings. No two cases are the same, and she takes great pride in supporting clients through complex and often sensitive situations. Kia describes herself as approachable and personable whilst maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. She believes this balance helps clients feel comfortable, enabling them to openly discuss their concerns and work collaboratively towards achieving the best possible outcome.

Her commitment to going above and beyond for her clients reflects her genuine passion for the legal profession. One of the proudest achievements of her career to date is qualifying as a Solicitor, and she is excited about continuing to develop her expertise and supporting clients throughout her career.

Outside of work, Kia enjoys spending time on holidays, visiting new places and exploring different cultures. She also loves watching her son play football on Sundays, though she admits she is still trying to grasp the offside rule!
