SOLICITORS REGULATION AUTHORITY

The SRA is the independent regulatory body of the Law Society of England and Wales.
The solicitors’ profession includes single-solicitor practices and huge firms with a global presence and thousands of lawyers. Solicitors also work in the justice system, in government and within companies. All solicitors follow the same professional principles and code of conduct. The SRA provide advice to help them do so.

Established in January 2007, the SRA was previously called the Law Society Regulation Board. They changed their name to emphasise their independence and to make what they do clearer.

CONVEYANCING QUALITY SCHEME

The Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) is a recognised quality standard for residential conveyancing practices. It marks out firm’s who have a high level of knowledge, skill and expertise in conveyancing.

CHILDREN LAW ACCREDITATION SCHEME

The Children Law Accreditation Scheme covers all types of children law work. Members will have shown, to the satisfaction of the Law Society, that they have and will maintain a high level of knowledge, skills, experience and practice in the area of children law, be that in private practice or working for a local authority.

RESOLUTION PANEL MEMBERSHIP

Resolution, which was formerly known as the Solicitors Family Law Association (SFLA), is an organisation of 6,500 family lawyers and other professionals in England and Wales, who believe in a constructive, non-confrontational approach to family law matters. Resolution also campaigns for improvements to the family justice system.

Resolution supports the development of family lawyers through its national and regional training programmes, through publications and good practice guides and through its accreditation scheme. Resolution also trains and accredits mediators and is the only body providing training and support for collaborative lawyers in England and Wales.

STEP ACCREDITATION

The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) is the leading worldwide professional body for practitioners in the fields of trusts, estates and related issues. STEP members help families plan their long term financial future, facilitating good stewardship and financial planning across future generations. STEP members also help families comply with the often complex tax rules surrounding trusts, estates and inheritance.

STEP is a unique professional body providing members with a local, national and international learning and business network. STEP provides education, training, representation and networking for its members.

Full members of STEP are the most experienced and senior practitioners in the field of trusts and estates. Members advise clients on the broad business of the management of personal finance.

FAMILY ADVANCED ACCREDITATION

The Family Law Accreditation Scheme covers all types of family law work (except public law Children Act work, which is covered by the Children Panel Accreditation Scheme).

Advanced membership enables a member to hold themselves out as an expert in a given area of family law.

THE LAW SOCIETY

The Law Society exists to represent, promote and support all solicitors, so they in turn can help their clients.

They also work to ensure that no-one is above the law and to protect everyone’s right to have access to justice. They promote England and Wales as the jurisdiction of choice and the vital role legal services play in our economy.

They work internationally to open up markets to our members and to defend human rights while supporting members with opportunities in the domestic market.
